Hello, everyone! Maybe some of my regular readers (and I don't think I have very many -sadface-) have seen that I have posted a list of blogs related to writing. I have learned a lot from these folks and I hope everyone else can benefit from their knowledge too.
Mindy McGinnis and her black cat reside at "Writer, Writer Pants on Fire" (isn't that a cool blog name?), and her blog is probably one of my favorites to read. She posts things like author chats, book reviews, query critiques, her random thoughts, and other really neat stuff. Her debut novel "Not a Drop to Drink" will be released in 2013, and I can't wait to read it. Hop on over to her blog to learn more about her!
"From the Write Angle" is a collaborative blog. Several people post on here, and they usually post some pretty neat and helpful stuff. The resources on here are really awesome and helpful to beginning writers such as myself.
R.C. Lewis, believe it or not, used to be my math teacher! She taught me all I know about derivatives and integration. She also taught me a lot about writing matters, and I'm really grateful for all that she's taught me (even factoring polynomials, yuck!). She writes geeky-chic YA lit, and her debut novel, "Stitching Snow", will be out in 2014. -Sniffles- I'm so proud of her, she really deserves to be published. Check out her new site, it's really cool!
"In the Jungle" is where the lion sleeps tonight and the lion happens to be Riley Redgate! She doesn't post a lot of stuff due to her being a college student (I can relate, ugg). She has some neat posts, and some really great novel ideas.
Jamie Weil is my mother's cousin and a fellow writer. Her YA psychological thriller, "First Break", will be published, and the main character's name is Paige (isn't that funny?). I'm looking forward to reading it, Jamie! She also posts some cool writing-related and sometimes health-related stuff.
Let's not forget my own totally groovy blog, "Page by Paige"! I write people stories. Sometimes it's YA and MG, sometimes it's not. Lately though, I feel the Pages in this blog don't exactly reflect Paige herself. I'm going to give my blog a makeover and add a little structure to it. I plan to do some author reviews (for example, I will see Stephen Chbosky), a people watch sort of thing (talk about what exactly makes us human), and general writing/life related posts. Three times a week is good during the summer, and when I go back to school, it'll drop off to one time a week (or no times a week, but hopefully that doesn't happen). Yeah! I'm up for the challenge!

You are Stronger Than a Substance!
You didn't really need me to tell you this, but a little emphasis never hurts, right? Or does it? Does saying drugs are bad and evil therefore make people more curious about them? I think curiosity certainly contributes to the mass consumption of drugs, but it's not the main reason people do drugs. People do drugs because it makes them feel good, and they will do anything to continue feeling good, even if it's artificial, and even at the cost of their health.
Ed Sheeran sings in his song U.N.I., "I don't drink like everybody else, I do it to forget things about myself." Heh, depends on what you want to forget about yourself, Ed. I'm assuming you want to forget the things about yourself that you're not proud of, and if you do, then that makes you feel good, correct? If that's the case, then you drink just like all the other addicts out there.
If you channel surf your TV, you'll find that more than half the TV shows are about or at least mention drugs. Today, I watched "Heroin Nation" and "Meth Nation", and then I watched "Breaking Bad" on Netflix. "Breaking Bad" sort of makes me laugh because the guy is just taking advantage of other people's weakness.
Drugs can show you just how weak a person is. If a person can't overcome an addiction, then they're weaker than a thing that is not even alive. True, I haven't experienced addiction so I can't really talk, and in a way, I do rely on (legal) drugs to keep me alive. I rely on drugs for a physical need though, not a spiritual one. An addiction is very physical (mostly spiritual), but the addict can live without it, and they brought this monster upon themselves.
Even the best people are brought to their knees by drugs, but the better people can get back up on their feet. Even better people ask for help. Drugs are formidable foes, but they can be beaten every time if you're strong enough. If you want to feel good and be happy, improve your own life instead of turning to substances and digging yourself an early grave.
Jeez, the things you think/rant about after a family vacation. O.o Next blog post will be less preachish, promise. I'm hoping to see Stephen Chbosky, the author of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" speak at the Santa Barbara Writers' Conference on June 8th! Stay tuned!

Paige's Summer Projects
Okay, this is me trying to pump some life into my blog once again. Once the summer is over, it'll probably deflate back to it's usual sorry state. Just warning you.
For the summer, I have a list of projects I want to complete, and most are writing-related. Imagine that, huh? I've made some progress towards them this week even. Here's a complete list of my projects, and hopefully it'll inspire some other people to create their own lists...Or you can sit around and be couch potatoes. Whatever works for you. :-)
1. I plan to read George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. I read the first two books in my Harry Potter and Game of Thrones class (Best. Class. Ever.), and really enjoyed it. My friend and I love having philosophical discussions about the series. I also plan to read "The Confessions of St. Augustine".
2. Finish "The Garden of Sunflowers". I started school with only four chapters left to write and they never got written. They will be written this summer!
3. Write a theology paper. Now, now, now. I know it's odd that an Atheist is writing about the existence of God, but for some reason, I enjoy thinking about religion. I came up with this idea when writing my term paper about Dumbledore and the greater good, strangely.
4. Swim two hours a day in the ocean or the pool. I just came back from my first official "open-water" swim. I really enjoyed it and the clumps of seaweed surprisingly did not play as many tricks on my imagination as I thought they would. Maybe I was swimming too hard to even create imaginary whales and sharks and lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
5. Draft a rudimentary outline of my Honors Capstone. I have this idea for a novel I want to write (and it's not YA or MG) and hopefully it'll be the next great American novel...Or at least good enough for me to graduate with Honors. :-D
I also plan to do some songwriting and poetry on the side, but that won't take priority.
Phew! I just gave myself a full-time job!
